Food TV Network

All I can say is I love Alton Brown, Sandra Lee and Rachael Ray. They are some of the chefs on the Food TV Network. Loves Alton for his humour and his brains of course!! Even hubby is enjoying his show now. I love Sandra Lee's and Rachael Ray's shows for the short cuts to cooking and semi-homemade tips. Anything that is good and yet less hassle, I am in!! Too busy with piles of things to do, do not want to spend too much time in the kitchen. Wishful thinking....perhaps someday I have my own cooking show....a long way to go....still tons of things to learn and experiment. Another wishful thinking....want Alton Brown to be my private tutor!! heheheheee...

More Experiments on Pastries

Made 'durian' pastry for myself. The 'durian' paste was too sweet...Note To Self : IN FUTURE ADD SUGAR BIT BY BIT!! DO'H!!

For darling hubby, I made Mr Goodbar Chocolate and Peanut Butter pastry. Looks awfully sweet for me, but hubby seems to like it and finished it all.

Singapore Curry Noodles

Note to self : DO NOT add 'sambal belacan' in this noodle the next time. It tasted so much better the last time I cooked this without it. It was an experiment. Have extra of that curry paste I made, will add that to the leftover noodles when I reheat it today.

Since I won't be cooking much today, will bake something special for my dearest hubby. He deserves it, he's been a wonderful husband and friend. :)

Mom's cooking and something Indonesian

The first one is rice with tofu and bean sprouts soup, topped with fried prawns chilli paste. Learned that from my beloved mom. Very easy.

The second is tofu with eggs, topped with cucumber, shrimp paste and sweet soy sauce. Not quite like the one in Sanur Indonesian restaurant back home, but still good. Found out online that I missed out something....corn flour....DO'H!!

Irresistable....

Yes, I finally made 'Epok Epok' (Curry Puffs) but it didn't turn out quite well. It was too oily. Must be from the short cuts that I took making it. Oh well, it was my first trial, will try to do better next time. Yesterday for dessert, I made the Chocolate Raspberry Almond Pastry. I had the recipe playing in my head that one night when I couldn't sleep and was hungry. The last photo is 'Sambal Belacan'. I use this in almost all of my cooking anymore. It is sooooooo yummy!! I made a lot as usual as I don't want to go through the hassle of doing it everytime I want to eat it. It's stored in the fridge and ready for me to eat it. :)...drools.

More about food!!

No picture today. Yesterday, I cooked Vietnamese style noodles with soup but I was so starving that I didn't want to spend all that time taking pictures etc. No Yahoo chat with my dear friend in Singapore this morning. She must have been busy. Not sure what I will be cooking today but I am hungry. Have been checking out recipes online for days now and drooling simultaneously. It's hard being far away from home....away from all the good food. Hard to get some of the ingredients in this itty bitty town too. There is only 1 Asian grocery store and it doesn't have enough varieties. Have to make do with what I have and things that I stocked up from my last visit to the Asian grocers in Atlanta and Indian grocer in Chattanooga, TN.

'Cucur Durian' (Durian Fritters)

This is the kind of durian that I get from here. The Vietnamese store here sells the whole ones too but still frozen. I prefer this one as they are seedless and ready to use. I finally made the durian fritters. It turned out ok but next time, I have to use self raising flour instead or add bicarbonate, slightly more salt and of course more durian.

'Nasi Goreng'

Yes I had 'nasi goreng' (fried rice) yesterday. Just a simple one using a ready made paste by Indofood.

As Rachael Ray of FoodNetwork Tv would say "Yum-O"!

I made this yesterday. It's 'tempeh' (check Wikepedia for what it is), fried with anchovies and peanuts with chilli paste.

'Mee Rebus'

So it has been food I talk about and nothing else...can't help it...far away from home, away from all the good food. I cooked 'mee rebus'. It's the 2nd time I cooked this that I can remember since I moved here in 1999. A little oily this time...hopefully the next time round, I'll cook the perfect 'mee rebus'.

'Mee Goreng'

After craving for it for days, I finally cooked it. Yes...'mee goreng'...but still as though something is missing...perhaps I should add 'belachan'. Will try that out today with the leftovers. Now something else that I also have been craving for...'jemput jemput bawang' (onion fritters). Will blog that later with pictures.....yummmm....

Was still sick and too tired to make 'epok epok' that weekend. So no pictures to share. Perhaps one of these days.....soon I hope as I am still drooling just by thinking about it. :)
